Crampons: Myths vs. reality
Myth 1: Studs make an unbearable noise! While this could be true in another era, advancements in technology, both in studs and tires, mean that noise impact is now much better controlled.
Myth 2: Studs destroy roads!
Here again, advancements in stud design have brought products to market that have minimal impact on roads and vehicle fuel consumption.
Myth 3: Studs are illegal!
False. In Canada, the only place that prohibits the use of studs is in the region of southern Ontario. It was an old law from 1972 that restricted the use of studs on a larger scale that left this impression on many motorists. They are now permitted across Canada (except southern Ontario) at varying times of the year depending on the province.
